Official Rules

We’re defining a one-hit wonder by U.S. chart performance — not nostalgia.

An artist qualifies ONLY if:

1️⃣ The song is from the 1990s
Released or charted between 1990–1999

2️⃣ The artist has EXACTLY ONE qualifying hit, meaning only one song that reached:

Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100
OR

Top 20 on:

Alternative Airplay (Modern Rock)
Mainstream Rock Airplay

If an artist has more than one song meeting these marks → DQ

Not Eligible If:

• Multiple qualifying hits

• Success mainly came outside the 90s

• Side project of a major multi-hit artist

📊 Chart Source

All stats come from Billboard chart history.
International charts don’t count.

🎶 What Doesn’t Matter

MTV play, cult followings, “but I loved their other song” — none of that counts.

If it didn’t hit the chart threshold, it doesn’t affect eligibility.

This bracket is about one song breaking through — that’s it.
